Washing

Washing:
You will need to wash your diapers depending on how many you have. I have enough diapers and inserts to wash every 2 to 3 days.(I could go longer, but I've found that they tend to retain smell the longer they sit, that, and my diaper pail gets full)
Steps for Washing:
  • Start with a cold rinse
  • Add detergent, wash in hot water and have a second rinse (if your machine allows)
  • Tumble dry inserts, prefolds, etc and hang dry covers
Detergent: basically, you want to use a detergent that is free of fragrance and dyes. Picking a DetergentDon't make the same mistake I did and use powdered regular detergent like I did. It gave my baby's bum a rash. I had to strip my diapers and  try a better detergent. Because you use so little detergent, you shouldn't have to worry too much about the price. I use the All free and clear liquid detergent and it works just fine.
Bleach: I add bleach to my wash cycle about every 3 weeks or when I notice my diapers are still a little smelly after the second rise cycle.  *Caution* If you use bleach too often, it starts to deteriorate your prefolds (talking from experience here)
Vinegar: If you are against using bleach you can use vinegar instead.
Baking Soda: Also helps to rid your diapers of smell. Or you can sprinkle it into your pail to contain smells.
*I would like to note that sometimes if you use vinegar and baking soda it actually makes your diapers smell worse, not better*
