I first decided to try cloth diapering in October of 2011
In the beginning I spent hours talking to other people who use cloth and reading review after review on different cloth diapers. I switched to cloth simply because I wanted to save money...and now that I have my own washer and dryer using cloth is now a possibility.
To start out, I spent about $100- $150 on my collection of cloth diapers and survived pretty well. Even though it sounds like a lot of money upfront, we are saving money because we aren't constantly buying expensive disposables. I do wish I would have done a lot more research because you can cloth for even cheaper than that if you choose the right brands.
I absolutely love cloth diapering!
Starting Out:
I have to admit I absolutely HATED cloth diapers when I first started. That first poopy diaper almost convinced me to throw them all away and give up. But because I had invested about a hundred dollars at that time into my bright idea I decided to stick with it. It wasn't easy. I had to rearrange my whole routine. At first I started out by using the cloth diapers 2 or 3 times a day and slowly worked my way up to all day. For a long time I used cloth 100% of the time. (Expect for long trips. Cloth isn't even an option in that case.) Now I find it easier to just use disposables at night. I also use them when my baby is sick or has a nasty diaper rash or if we will be out and about longer than about 3 hours. Other than that, it's cloth all the time! Once I got used to everything and got into my own routine I found I love using cloth diapers, I love saving money and I love how cute they are!
*Even if you use cloth only half of the time, you are still saving a lot of money!*
